Abstract

This article provides a theoretical analysis of multilingualism and the key linguistic issues arising in multilingual contexts. The study examines modern interpretations of multilingualism, focusing on such phenomena as language interference, code-switching, and translanguaging, drawing on the works of leading linguists. Particular attention is given to the concept of plurilingual competence as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and its relevance to contemporary language education. The findings of the theoretical analysis indicate that a multilingual approach should be regarded not as an obstacle but as a pedagogical resource that enhances learners’ linguistic, cognitive, and intercultural communicative competences. The article argues for a shift from monolingual instructional models to inclusive, multilingual-oriented teaching practices in foreign language education.
