ISSUES OF CRITICAL THINKING IN THE WORKS OF ABDULLA AVLONI

The article presents a historical and conceptual analysis of ideas closely related to
critical thinking in the pedagogical and educational poetic heritage of Abdulla Avloni. The
primary sources of the study include sections of Turkiy Guliston yoxud axloq (Turkic
Gulistan, or Morality) devoted to the cultivation of thinking, observation and moral
learning, truthfulness, self-assessment, and conscience, as well as the poems Maktab haqida (About School), Ilm (Knowledge), and Falak kajrav, yo rab (O Lord, the Heavens
Are Unjust). Through close reading, problem-oriented interpretation, and comparative
analysis, the study reveals the interconnections among intellectual education,
observational skills, moral evaluation, and the willingness to revise one's own views. It
demonstrates that fully equating Avloni's ideas with contemporary theories of critical
thinking is historically unjustified. As its main contribution, the article proposes a didactic
approach to teaching the writer's intellectual heritage that integrates textual evidence,
alternative interpretations, assessment criteria, and reflective conclusions.
