A COMPARATIVE PEDAGOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMAGES OF THE MOTHER AND THE FAITHFUL BELOVED (BASED ON THE EPICS RUSTAMKHAN AND ALPOMISH)

The article presents a comparative pedagogical analysis of two central female
characters in the Uzbek heroic epic tradition: Huroyim in Rustamkhan and Barchin in
Alpomish. The study aims to identify the moral content and pedagogical functions of these
characters and, on this basis, to reveal the structural components of the educational ideal
of women in Uzbek folk pedagogy. Scholarly editions of the two epics performed by Fozil
Yo‘ldosh o‘g‘li serve as the primary sources, while character analysis, comparative-
typological, and structural-functional methods are employed in combination. The
comparison is conducted according to eight criteria: status and age, dominant virtue,
nature of the trial, mode of struggle, verbal activity, narrative function, educational
function, and form of resolution. The findings demonstrate that Huroyim embodies a
comprehensive pedagogical model of the mother, whereas Barchin represents the model
of the faithful beloved. Both characters are united by such moral qualities as loyalty,
wisdom, honor, dignity, and human compassion; however, the manifestation of this moral
core varies according to age, social status, and the genre context of the epics. The study
argues that the two characters do not duplicate but rather complement each other, jointly
forming a coherent educational ideal corresponding to two stages of a woman’s life. The
findings may be applied in literature classes, educational activities, and family upbringing
practices.
