A TYPOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE MECHANISM OF FINAL REWARD (POETIC JUSTICE) IN THE “GOROGLY” CYCLE

The article analyzes the sixth and final artistic-pedagogical mechanism in the epics of the “Gorogly”
cycle—final reward, or poetic justice. This mechanism reinforces the moral conclusions formed through the five
preceding mechanisms (advice, exemplary instruction, trial, antithesis, and symbol) by means of the compositional resolution of the epic. Drawing on the epics Forty Young Men and Forty Girls, Avazkhan’s Death
Sentence, and The Birth of Gorogly, the study identifies stable types of the poetic justice formula and establishes
their theoretical relationship with folklore studies (K. Imomov’s theory of fairy-tale composition) and pedagogy
(the theory of reward and punishment as an educational method). As a result, three typological types are identified:
the hero’s attainment of the desired goal (positive reward), the punishment of evil (negative reward), and
collective wedding festivities (ritual conclusion). It is concluded that these three types form an inseparable whole
and function as the final reinforcing stage of the six mechanisms examined in Chapter III.
