PEDAGOGICAL CRITERIA FOR ASSESSING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ABILITIES

In contemporary higher education, determining the effectiveness of developing
students’ scientific research abilities requires not only recording educational outcomes
but also reliably diagnosing students’ readiness for scientific inquiry and actual changes
in their research activities. This article investigates the development of pedagogical
criteria and a diagnostic model for comprehensively assessing the effectiveness of
students’ scientific research ability development. A distinctive feature of the study is its
interpretation of scientific research ability not as a collection of separate knowledge and
skills but as an integrated system of interconnected motivational-value, cognitive,
operational-research, communicative-academic, and reflective-evaluative components.
Comprehensive, competency-based, and activity-oriented approaches were applied in
selecting diagnostic tasks and synthesizing assessment results. The proposed diagnostic
model enables a holistic assessment of students’ research activities, encompassing their
attitudes toward scientific inquiry, identification of research problems, searching for and
analyzing scientific information, practical implementation of research tasks,
communication of research findings, and reflective evaluation of their own performance.
The results obtained through this approach provide a diagnostic foundation for
quantitatively and qualitatively assessing the development of students’ scientific research
abilities, determining the effectiveness of pedagogical interventions, and improving the
educational process.
