HOW AGE IMPACTS THE EASE OF ACQUIRING ENGLISH AND WHETHER THERE'S A "BEST AGE" TO LEARN IT

This article examines the impact of age on learning English as a second language. It explores how cognitive, neurological, and social factors influence language acquisition at different stages of life. Particular attention is given to the concept of the Critical Period Hypothesis and the question of whether there is an optimal age for acquiring a second language. The article compares the advantages and limitations of children, adolescents, and adults in learning English and discusses the effectiveness of different learning approaches for each age group. In addition, practical recommendations and pedagogical strategies are provided to support successful language learning across various age ranges. The findings suggest that while age is an important factor, motivation, learning environment, instructional quality, and individual learner characteristics also play crucial roles in second language acquisition.
