THE IMPORTANCE AND TYPES OF QUESTION FORMULATION IN TEACHING PHONETICS

This article analyzes the quality of learning tasks and the importance of questions
in teaching Uzbek as both a native and a state language. It emphasizes that modern
education requires the development of twenty-first-century skills and, therefore, learning
tasks and questions should be carefully designed and aligned with assessment criteria.
Particular attention is given to phonetics instruction, highlighting the role of questions in
increasing learners’ speech activity, assessing their knowledge and skills, and developing
independent thinking. Questions are classified into information-seeking, checking,
analytical, and creative types, with their purposes illustrated through examples. The
article also provides a scientific and methodological examination of the distinction
between questions and tasks, the psychological aspects of teachers’ questions, methods of
teaching students how to formulate questions, the Socratic method, and the effectiveness
of question-based instruction. The central role of questions in the educational process and
the need to orient linguistic tasks toward the development of language skills are
emphasized. In addition, listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and their
assessment are discussed, and recommendations for improving learning tasks are
provided.
